Camborne Science & International Academy is proud to announce that it is the first British and European school to be chosen to host the International Student Science Fair – the 9th ISSF in 2013.

The ISSF is the major event of its type in the world, bringing together students, teachers, school and university leaders to share and develop their ideas about science in the modern world. Students and teachers from around 50 elite science schools will attend, by invitation, a week-long learning programme to be held during the period 11th – 15th July 2013.

George Eustice (MP for Camborne, Redruth and Hayle) highlighted our academy during Prime Minister's Questions in the House of Commons on 16th May saying: "Pupils from around the world will visit the town when it becomes the first ever British school to host the international student science fair". Mr Eustice asked the question: "Does the Prime Minister agree that if Britain is to prosper in the future we need to lead the world in science and technology and that we should support the efforts of schools such as Camborne which are leading the way?" Mr Cameron said the school is "Clearly doing a good job".

The ISSF provides a unique forum for budding scientists to display their enquiry skills and defend their findings in a non-competitive environment. The event provides students from around the world valuable opportunities to work in collaborative settings to exchange ideas, hone their research techniques and engage their inquisitive minds in the fields of mathematics and sciences with like-minded peers. Opportunities are provided that extend student thinking, allowing them to use their knowledge in interesting ways and encourage all participants to explore their ethics and assumptions in the application of mathematics, science and technology. In particular, the team-work in problem solving and sharing sessions gives students and educators the opportunity to work with peers from different nations, thus promoting the inter-cultural understandings needed in the 21st Century. A significant component of ISSF is the cultural and social interactions which help develop friendships and collaborative opportunities amongst our students and educational leaders which may be the basis for future cooperation and study.

Camborne Science & International Academy has been an active participant in the ISSF for a number of years and currently sits on the ISSF Executive Steering Committee. To be elected to host this event by the other key schools on this committee is an amazing honour and accolade and reflects the esteem and respect CSIA has earned over the years.

As a school, we are delighted to be bringing this once-in-a-lifetime global event to our county, country and local community. Listed are past and future hosts of the ISSF, the importance of this is self-evident and how significant it is on the global stage. We are so proud to see Camborne listed alongside some of the world's leading cities.

The next year is going to be very busy but we look forward with relish to the opportunity and challenge. We will be hosting the event both at CSIA and the University of Exeter's Tremough Campus. We want this event to impact on our whole school, our wider community, our primary partners and the educational community of Cornwall as a whole. However, we will not let this great event detract us from our core aim of a high quality educational experience for all our students and achieving 'Outstanding' at the next Ofsted inspection.

Throughout the coming months we will keep our learning community appraised of developments as we work towards July 2013. Please keep looking at our website where further details will be published. We will be working closely with our local supporters and the wider community to ensure the 9th ISSF is the best ever!
